Much like the Starks have always known that winter was coming, we've known this was inevitable. And yet, we're never really, truly ready for it.
It in this case, is the Hatch Chile Festival, now in its 22nd year, which is back at Central Market this August. For New Mexicans and pickers of pickled peppers, the "Land of EnHATCHment" is just that — a magical time to celebrate everything Hatch in, well, everything from corn bread and rice to dark chocolate bars.
For those of us who don't jive with the permanent smokiness the festival implies, this is your warning.
Hatch Festival starts August 9 and runs through August 22 with an assortment of featured Hatch-filled products (i.e. pineapple hatch cilantro gelato, anyone?) and experiences such as Hatch and Gruet pairings, cast iron Hatch recipes, Hatch surf and turf classes, a "Hatchtastic" Demo & Dine, a Hatch seafood class (even though New Mexico is landlocked, but whatever) and a Hatch bakery class because pineapple Hatch upside-down cake is real.
