Based on the stage play by Oscar Wilde, Strauss’ hair-raising retelling of this biblical tale will shock and thrill audiences. OPERA San Antonio’s production of Strauss’ monumental opera features a world-class cast starring Patricia Racette, an internationally sought-after soprano hailed by The New York Times as “…deeply affecting and impassioned.” Racette will be making her stage debut singing the role of the fatally seductive Salome with co-stars Allan Glassman as Herod, Michelle DeYoung as Herodias, Alan Held as Jochanaan and Brian Jagde as Narraboth, with Renee Rapier returning to OPERA San Antonio as The Page of Herodias. Sung in German with projected English translations, the production will be conducted by the San Antonio Symphony Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing.
