“We are delighted that the Museum and its audiences will continue to benefit from John Santikos’s passion for the arts,” Katie Luber, SAMA's Kelso Director, says in a press release. “These grants allow us to offer the experience of art through lectures, films, and special events and to engage and grow our community — something Mr. Santikos very much believed in. John Santikos's name endures as one that is synonymous with art, culture and community. We are grateful that the San Antonio Area Foundation has chosen the Museum to be part of his legacy.”
The first Art Party is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests will be able to enjoy guided tours of "Realms of Earth and Sky," which are Indian miniature paintings at 5:30, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m., with music by Austin-based world music outfit Atash and specialty cocktails by Blue Box Bar. The good times are free with museum admission and there's a cash bar.
SAMA started its art parties in 2012 and say the shindigs regularly bring in 500 people to the museum. The Art Party is held each second Friday of the month, and includes live music, guided tours, art activities and, of course, cocktails.
Themes throughout the year are inspired by SAMA's special exhibitions and its permanent collection. The Art Party is a collaboration between KRTU FM, Blue Box Bar and Esquire Tavern.
