San Antonio chefs playing musical chairs

by

If the food or menu at your favorite restaurant has changed lately, it’s probably because the chefs have been playing musical chairs in San Antonio.

In Southtown, there’s a new chef at The Monterey — Quealy Watson. He’s been with the gastropub for a while, but only recently took charge of the kitchen. And Il Sogno head chef Luca Dellacasa has departed, meaning if you grab a seat by the kitchen you may be able to watch owner and culinary mover Andrew Weissman in action. The change may not be as noticeable at Monterey, where they change up the menu every few weeks, but we’re told they’ll be using the same modern techniques and small plates they’re known for.

Other restaurant owners in town (or their diners) might be wishing they had new chefs. Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares is looking for restaurants in need of Gordon Ramsay’s help. The show sends the English chef to observe the kitchen, try the food, and yell British-accented obscenities at chefs, waiters, owners, and restaurant patrons. So if you know any eateries in need of such special assistance, send an email to kitchennightmares4@gmail.com with the name of the restaurant and why you’re nominating it. Casting agents will call the restaurant to ask them if they’re interested in being on the show — without mentioning your name.
