Barring an unforeseen post-season showdown, the Spurs tip off against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for the last time this season on Friday – after losing by eight points on Wednesday night.

In previous wins against the Lakers, LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan have led the way, with Aldridge scoring a season high 37 points in an overtime victory in LA back in October. After acquiring Tyson Chandler in November, effectively adding an NBA champion, Olympic gold medalist and former Defensive Player of the Year to their roster, the Lakers are a different team, particularly on the defensive end of the floor.

As national hoops pundits once again decry San Antonio’s lack of youth and athleticism, the Spurs’ defense soldiers on as a porous work in progress. A six-game home stand provides a welcome respite and opportunity for the Spurs to correct their course.
