In Defense of Animals (IDA) and One World Conservation are urging the San Antonio Zoo Board to seek a more humane option for Lucky, the zoo’s lone elephant, and send her to sanctuary. The San Antonio Zoo has repeatedly stated that Lucky will be left alone in the exhibit and no attempts will be made to move her. “Lucky should be given the chance to live out the remainder of her life in a more natural and mentally stimulating environment,” said Melissa Gonzalez, spokesperson for In Defense of Animals. “She should have the opportunity to socialize with other elephants and greater space to roam.” Protesters will be on site Sunday, November 2 to educate zoo patrons and urge the San Antonio Zoo Board to reconsider Lucky’s fate.
