There's been plenty of news lately about S.A.'s rising home prices, but here's something that may add a little perspective.

San Antonio only ranks 37th in the country in median home price, according to a survey of residential real estate values in American cities by Lending Tree.

With a median value of $191,000, San Antonio landed well below Dallas, Austin and Houston. San Jose, Calif., the priciest market in the nation, tipped in at $1.1 million, while Austin, the priciest Texas market, has a median value of $282,000.

Ranked by total real estate value, S.A. slides up to No. 32 on the list, with a total value of $159 billion, or roughly the real estate value of the entire country of Hungary.

So, depending on how you look at it, we're either not so bad or we have room to get a whole lot worse.

However, housing experts point out that one of the best barometers whether a housing value is growing too fast is how many residents spend more than 30 percent of their incomes on a place to live. And, as of 2016, 165,000 of all San Antonio households had crossed that line, according to city data.
