Screens That's a wrap

The low-down on this week's premieres

Never having experienced the pleasures of the flesh, electronics-store employee Andy Stitzer (Steve Carrell) is The 40 Year-Old Virgin, in a comedy by first-time film director Judd Apatow. When Andy's buddies find out their friend has never been laid, they make it their personal mission to help their chaste comrade get lucky. It's peer pressure at its finest as the boys hit the town locked and loaded with Lifestyles.

Jumping on the middle-of-the-night flight, hotel manager Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is taken hostage by fellow passenger Jackson Rippner (Cilian Murphy), in Wes Craven's Red Eye. While in mid-air, Jack reveals to Lisa that she must assist him in the assassination of a political figure, who is staying at her hotel, or her father (Brian Cox) will be murdered. And I thought leg room was the biggest problem passengers faced on commercial flights.

With the voice of Ewan McGregor (The Island) as the title character, the animated film Valiant follows the story of an undersized pigeon who wants to join Great Britain's Royal Air Force Homing Pigeon Service during World War II. Prepare yourself for jokes about aircraft bombers and poop.

The comedians in The Aristocrats must not have had their mouths washed out with soap as children. The documentary, which includes cameos by a shitload of famous funny men and women, celebrates what is considered the dirtiest joke ever told. Among the comedians to grace us with their unique renditions are George Carlin, Sarah Silverman, and Robin Williams.

Another documentary, Grizzly Man, tells the story of Timothy Treadwell, who for 13 summers lived among the wild grizzly bears before being devoured by one of them on his last trip into the forest `see "The 25th grizzly" in this issue of the Current`. Guess that picnic-basket costume wasn't a smart idea.

Finally, two teenage girls become overly fascinated with each other in the English countryside in My Summer of Love `see "Two Yorkshire tarriers," July 21-27, 2005`.
