Leading into Veterans Day weekend, the Institute of Texan Cultures has chosen to document the Tejano experience in the armed forces with stories from a panel of historians and veterans. Serving with Honor will explore the personal stories of Tejanos and Tejanas who have served in the United States Military. The program will reveal the importance of the military for them individually and in the context of their communities. Panel members include UT-Austin history professor Emilio Zamora, analyzing a soldier’s diary from World War I; Ernesto Sanchez (USAF Ret./Korean War); Col. Lisa Firmin (USAF Ret./Iraqi Freedom) and Capt. Valerie Solis (Afghanistan).
