Signal Cleanse Ceremony

As technology is altering ideas about connection, how are we looking at ourselves? In what ways has the simulacra of the selfie changed who we are as human beings and how we communicate with each other? SIGNAL CLEANSE will look at dependency on the fake reality we create and curate on our phones. Jacquenette Arnette (San Antonio) and Teri Gandy-Richardson (Brooklyn) will host a 2-day ceremony on November 6 and 7th at The Lodge of Saint Reborlaro, currently situated at Sala Diaz. They will look at the importance and sociological impact of smart phones and selfies on the human experience. Participants will be required to check in their technological devices and share in a group centered experience designed to really consider this everyday companion, as well as our technological verses authentic self. Participants will be expected to refrain from using their devices for the duration of the ceremony, which will last about one hour. When participants retrieve their devices, this will signal the end of the ritual. Please come with the intention to actively participate, communicate face-to-face and explore interpersonal connection sans the mediation of the digital. Space is limited.
