Mikaila Rushing, born and raised in South Texas, developed a passion for storytelling at a young age. She has devoted much of her time to writing and participated in many juvenile writing competitions. At twelve years old, she completed her first novel, The Magician's Portal, before entering high school. The novel describes four friends' dull summer turning into a dangerous adventure when they stumble into a mystical, unknown world. Now they have to try to find their way back home with only the word of a gypsy, a vague prophecy, and an enchanted book to guide them.
