Slinging Ink Tattoo Expo

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-02-16

Presented by Nikita Productions, the 7th Annual Slinging Ink Tattoo Expo puts SA’s most sought-after tattoo artists under the same giant roof with hordes of body-art aficionados ready to get inked on the spot. But even tattoo virgins can partake in this indoor/outdoor counterculture playground, thanks to live music, comedy, cold beer, and truly unparalleled people watching. While the winners of such categories as Best Chest Plate, Full Back, Full Sleeve, and Neck Portrait (entries cost $10 per tattoo) are sure to amaze, the owner of Slinging Ink’s Worst Tattoo (announced at 7 p.m. Saturday) is generally a scene stealer. Not for the faint at heart, the expo’s Human Suspension acts (7-8 p.m. Fri, Feb 18, 3-4 p.m. Sat, Feb 19, and 4:30-5 p.m. Sun, Feb 20) might make you question your pain threshold and wonder why those charts in doctors’ offices stop at 10. Slinging Ink’s featured bands include: Texas Trash (5 p.m. Fri, Feb 18), Four Count (7:20 p.m. Fri, Feb 18), Grind (8:15 p.m. Fri, Feb 18), Black Falcon (1 p.m. Sat, Feb 19), When Words Attack (2 p.m. Sat, Feb 19), Nancy Silva Project (3:50 p.m. Sat, Feb 19), Snake Skin Prison (6:30 p.m. Sat, Feb 19), Drowning Pool (9 p.m. Sat, Feb 19), Emporium (2 p.m. Sun, Feb 20), Infinity Kill (3 p.m. Sun, Feb 20), Eden Burning (4:20 p.m. Sun, Feb 20), and Pigweed (7:30 p.m. Sun, Feb 20). $15-$20 (free for kids 10 and under), 3-10pm Fri, Feb 18; 10am-10pm Sat, Feb 19; noon-8pm Sun, Feb 20, San Antonio Events Center, 8111 Meadow Leaf, (210) 674-2424,
