S'Nuff film

Hey hey, sweet baby, what you got goin’ on Friday December 5 through Sunday, December 7? Here’s an idea — you, me, 48 hours, a video camera, and one sexy-ass $35 registration fee. Hey, put away the pepper spray, I’m just talking about the San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience, not to be confused with the 48 Hour Film Project or Another 48 Hours starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.

The SA Experience begins that Friday when registered teams (print entry forms at sa48hr.com) draw for the genres, lines of dialogue, props, and locations that must appear in their films. This year, filmmakers are also required to tailor their movies to fit a pre-determined theme: “the family film experience.” That seems like a pretty circuitous way to say “keep it PG,” which sucks for all of you planning on filming adaptations of my columns, because onscreen they’d basically translate to a string of tantalizing adult situations punctuated by exploding helicopters and (extremely brief and unappealing) flashes of full-frontal nudity.

Discuss your unenviable dilemma tonight (Tuesday, November 25) at the SA Film Forum, 6:30 p.m. at the central branch of the public library (600 Soledad). Till next time, honey. I hate to see you go, but may I video-tape you leaving?
