S'Nuff film

Hey, procrastinating filmmakers — get ready to start thinking about starting to get off your ass to begin filming your entry for the 2009 Marfa Film Festival (, because the submission deadline is Wednesday, February 25, as in TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY. (Begin panicking now.)

Those of you who’ve gotten your act together and your Marfa films in the mail might appreciate a helpful reminder that entries for the second-annual Doorpost Short Film Contest ( will be accepted until March 15. Submitted films may be no longer than seven minutes, and must incorporate one of the following themes: freedom, forgiveness, redemption, joy, or humility. This sounds an assload easier to throw together at the last minute, so don’t sweat it. Grand prize is $100,000, so why not just send an artful montage of Touched by an Angel clips and consider the entry fee a $60 lottery ticket?

Further out and slightly to the north, we’ve got the Dogfish Brewery Off-Centered Film Competition (, accepting entries until March 1, and the Austin Film Festival (, which will consider submissions until May 15.
