When: Sat., Oct. 1, 7-10 p.m. 2016
Kicking off this weekend, and continuing every Saturday in October, Galeria E.V.A. will be celebrating Mexican poet, writer, and Catholic nun Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. Considered by many to be among the first feminist voices in the Americas, Sor Juana was a consummate advocate for equality, believing unflinchingly that, even in her position as a nun, she should be free to pursue academic knowledge, chase her writing muse, and share her God-given talent with the world. This marks the first time there has been a specific festival in San Antonio to honor the illustrious Mexican writer, who is sometimes referred to as The Tenth Muse. On Saturday, come browse the gallery and dig art inspired by and/or dedicated to Sor Juana by some of San Antonio’s finest artists, including Anel Flores, Alma Lopez, Cecilia Sanchez Duarte, and many more.
