Robb Chavez, creator of the cable-access, cult TV favorite, Robb's Metalworks, has announced his plans for San Antonio's 2nd annual Robb's Metalworks Showcase. Chavez initially took his show's headbanging theme to an El Paso stage in 2001, where his Chavez Crime Family Productions put together a highly successful showcase of Lone Star metal bands. Last May, he brought the showcase concept to San Antonio, with an aggro-fest that drew an estimated 200 people to Sam's Burger Joint.
Chavez's next SA showcase will again take place at Sam's, and is set for Saturday, May 1. The RMS lineup includes local bands Beyond Black (a new band that combines members of Bitter Harvest and Ancient Cross), Thornspawn (the River City's dark lords of metal), and Deadpool, along with Houston's Magistral and Austin-based headliner Watchtower. Chavez also plans to follow the San Antonio festival with his first-ever showcase in Houston, tentatively set for May.

The choice is pretty simple: a laser show or a Still Life Projector. That's what the admittedly thin, post-holiday options amount to for rock fans this Saturday, January 10, with the Majestic's well-traveled Pink Floyd Laser Light Show going up against Sin 13's performance by up-and-coming Sacramento, California, quintet Still Life Projector. The band, which released a debut CD called The Fallen last year on 720 Records, will be joined on the Sin 13 bill by Tokyo Rose. Showtime is 7 p.m. •
