Producing the popular arts
Trinity University presents a free public lecture by Cindy Chupack on Monday, March 29, as part of its Stieren Arts Enrichment Series. The writer and executive producer for the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning show, Sex and the City, will discuss the differences in producing a show for broadcast television and producing a show for HBO. Her appearance marks the second half of Trinity's two-part sub-series, Understanding the Popular Arts.

The Insituto de México's series of short international films continues through the end of March.
Short films Adiós mama, Peor es nada, De jazmín en flor, El Milagro, and Frida Kahlo, la cinta que envuelve una bomba will be shown, followed by D. Dragic's País invitado Yugoslavia.

The University of Texas at San Antonio screens Every Child Is a Poet on Monday, March 29. The film explores the life and work of Piri Thomas, author of the classic autobiographical novel, Down These Mean Streets.

Call for entries
The San Antonio Underground Film Festival is currently accepting short and feature films of all genres for its upcoming 10th annual event. The festival is scheduled for June 25 through 27 at Sunset Station. Submission deadline is April 23; the entry fee is $25. Deadline for late entries is April 30; the entry fee is $35. Previews must be formatted on DVD or NTSC-VHS; foreign language films must be subtitled.
Anyone who enters will receive a festival T-shirt. The grand prize winner will receive a lowrider bicycle or $200 cash. Entry forms can be downloaded from the festival's website: www.safilm.com.
