Screens » Screens Etc.

Unlike some festivals, this one announces its winners well before the first public screening - and the jury's choice for Best Feature Film, Washington Heights, will open the five-day fest. The movie, directed by Alfredo de Villa, is about a subject close to our hearts: an aspiring comic book artist trying to make it in New York City. Manny Perez, who stars in the film, will be on hand for a mixer at 7pm; the films (two short subjects precede Washington Heights) begin at 8pm. Admission is $8, $6 for seniors, students, and GCAC members; all-events passes are available for $30. The Current will have more coverage as the event gets underway next week - until then, see for more info. JOHN DEFORE
