Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: "Fiesta, Fête, Festival"

Fiesta, Fête, Festival

Through scene and costume designs along with engravings and commemorative festival books as old as the 1600s, the McNay’s “Fiesta, Fête, Festival” places San Antonio’s Fiesta celebrations (including NIOSA, Charreada, the Coronation of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo, and even Cornyation) on the same worldly map with Spain’s Feria de Abril, Italy’s Carnevale, and Russia’s Shrovetide Fair and Yarmarka. Party-hopping from the Alamo City to Seville, Venice, Florence, Versailles, St. Petersburg, and beyond, the exhibition draws from the museum’s Tobin Collection to illustrate “how festivals inspired modern ballets and operas by Bizet, Ravel, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky, and Verdi.” $5-$10; 10am-4pm Wed, Jan 16; McNay Art Museum, 6000 N New Braunfels, (210) 824-5368, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
