The southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 281 were shut down Wednesday after a 35-year-old man jumped into the lanes from a Loop 1604 exit ramp, near Donella Dr. The man died from what a San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman say was an alleged suicide.

This comes less than a month after a man ran across 1604's eastbound lanes near Blanco Rd. and jumped to his death, and exactly a year after a nearly identical suicide at the same Hwy 281 location.

SAPD are continuing to investigate the scene. It's unknown when the lanes will reopen to traffic.

Update — 2 p.m.

According to a SAPD witness report, the deceased man had "just stopped, got out of the vehicle, and jumped over the rails." The 100-foot fall killed the man on impact. No vehicles were impacted by the fall.
