Sulla Strada Pizza Will Open Its First Brick-and-Mortar in Dignowity Hill This Summer

John Winkler, owner of Sulla Strada Pizza, will be taking his talents to Dignowity Hill this summer as one of the anchor locations for a new development by Zurich Properties.

Sulla, which launched as a food truck in 2014 out of Alamo Street Eat Bar, gained followers for its Napolitano-style pizza. In March of 2017, the truck moved on to the St. Mary's Strip where Sulla serves the late night crowd.

"I wanted to check out a different scene," said Winkler, 42.

The "one-man show" will still keep trucking while the new site at the corner of Hackberry and Houston nears completion sometime later this summer or fall.

"I'm signed up and ready to go," Winkler said.

Sulla at Digownity will use a wood-fire oven for their pies, calzones and will also feature salads. Winkler has been in kitchens since he was 15, including the original Biga, Twin Sisters and pizza shops in Austin.

You can still find him at Squeezebox (2806 N. St. Mary's St.) from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
