- Florida-based The Electric Mud plays the Mix tonight.
So, when an outfit comes up with fresh approach that still melts faces with the best of their peers, it's a welcome change.
Those seeking something gut-clenchingly heavy that doesn't sound like the zillionth rewrite of "Children of the Grave" could do a lot worse than Florida's The Electric Mud. The band swings into the Mix tonight with DJ Smoak spinning as local support.
The Electric Mud's bluesy, dynamic take on heavy rock comes across like a revved-up hybrid of the Allman Brothers and Blackfoot with a little Rival Sons (and two fingers of Elijah Craig) stirred into the cocktail.
On its new long-player, Bull Gator, the band wisely steers clear of the jokey redneck-isms to which too many bands mining a Southern-inspired sound fall victim. These boys are selling their firewater, not with kitsch, but with soulful vocals, solid songwriting and some goddamned incendiary guitar work.
