Hello Studio’s “Sweet and Just,” pairs works by Brooklyn-based musician, writer and artist Blake Schwarzenbach—singer/guitarist for the bands Jawbreaker (1988–1996), Jets to Brazil (1997–2003), The Thorns of Life (2008–2009) and Forgetters (2009–present)—and Houston painter Tra’ Slaughter. Curated by Houston-based Brandy Black and named in reference to Wilfred Owen’s poem “Dulce et Decorum Est,” “Sweet and Just” comprises works that are “not always explicitly depictions of combat” but allude to “its persistent presence in the social landscape over the past decades.” On view by appointment.
