Texas Convening for Teens in the Arts

When: Thu., July 21, 10 a.m. & 6 p.m. 2016

Launched by the Whitney Museum of American Art in collaboration with the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the multi-year research project “Room to Rise” found improved personal growth, life skills, community engagement and career horizons among the long-terms benefits of teen programming at art museums. Taking these findings to heart, the Texas Convening for Teens in the Arts brings together educators and teen representatives from Artpace, Blue Star MOSAIC, Fort Worth Modern, Dallas Museum of Art, Creative Action, SAY Sí and the Kimbell Art Museum for a series of workshops, presentations and roundtable discussions presented in partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (ICA). In its second year, the conference offers two public programs: an open studio presentation (10am) and a panel discussion between creative professionals from the ICA, Lake|Flato, VentureLab and Weston Urban (6pm).
