Off-grid Adobe Dome in the Desert, Terlingua
$88 per night
Your adventure out to Big Bend can include staying indoors, but also staying off-the-grid in this custom dome that is powered by solar energy. It is located in one of the few remaining territories under a dark sky ordinance, which means the view of the night's sky is absolutely gorgeous.
The tiny space includes a queen bed, couch and a dining table for two.
The kitchen offers the bare essentials with a two-burner propane stove and oven, a refrigerator and even a kitchen sink that pumps water from a small rain cistern – which means you have to conserve water as much as possible.
