When: Sat., Dec. 1, 7-10 p.m. and Thursdays-Saturdays, 3-7 p.m. Continues through Feb. 2 2019
Fresh off a recently completed stint at Künstlerhaus Bethanien via Blue Star Contemporary’s Berlin Residency program, local artist Amada Miller will present a new body of work, beginning this weekend in conjunction with Sala Diaz’s inaugural Winter Warmer fundraiser/shindig. For this exhibition, which was partially developed during her residency, Miller digs deeper into her work with fabrics and dyes, and the connotations, histories and natural patterns they allow her to plumb. Utilizing elements like meteorites, clay and scent (with help from Kellen Stanley), along with the fabric and dye work, Miller looks to “investigate and observe natural processes on their own terms, relating them to the broader universe.” Meanwhile, the coinciding Winter Warmer will be a festive affair, replete with mezcal, wassail, beer, pozole and live music from Demitasse, offering up its weapons-grade melancholic joy. All in all, this promises to be a beautiful night for San Antonio art at the magical Sala Diaz compound.
Price: Free (Winter Warmer $10 suggested donation)
