The long-awaited Mays Family Center — the Witte Museum's newest addition — is finally complete.

The museum made the announcement about the $15  million, 19,000-square-foot project Monday.

“The Mays Family Center is a stunning building that embraces both the ancient San Antonio River and historic Broadway," Witte Museum President and CEO Marise McDermott says in a press release. "The center is emblematic of the cultural renaissance in the City of San Antonio because it can accommodate the best and largest exhibitions in the world and the City’s most majestic events.”

The first exhibition will be "Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed," which opens May 14. This is the largest traveling exhibition in the United States featuring Mayan civilization. Visitors will learn how the Maya built their mysterious temples and their legendary calendar system, along with experiencing hands-on activity stations that combine authentic artifacts along with multimedia.

The Mays Family Center is part of a $100-million-dollar renovation of the 10-acre Witte Museum Campus.
