Germs singer Darby Crash died of a heroin overdose December 7, 1980, but that’s no reason to stop the rock, right? Reunited in 2005 behind Shane West — the actor cast to play Crash in biopic What We Do Is Secret — the remaining Germs continue to tour sans frontman in the proud tradition of Queen, Sublime, and every has-been act featured on VH1’s Making the Band. Your punk-rock ethos may whine the whole time, but Friday’s show at Rock Bottom is the only chance you’re gonna get to see bassist Lorna Doom, drummer Don Bolles, and guitarist Pat Smear (who probably experienced déjà vu in 1994 as the newest member of the thankfully yet-to-be-reunited Nirvana) tearing into “No God” and “Communist Eyes” with the kind of youthful rebellion achieved only by middle-aged musicians with mortgages to pay.
