The Golden Boys

Release Date: 2009-02-04

Forget compact discs (those dwindling sales figures and RIAA lawsuits indicate you already have), and save that mp3 player for some inorganically produced Katy Perry kinda shit that deserves to be compressed and flattened, sanitized of all human contamination, and injected directly into your ear canal via tiny, tinny buds.

The cranky music critic demands that some bands be heard on a popping, imperfect, actual record. Case in point: Austin’s Golden Boys, who are thankfully self-aware enough to release their latest, Goodbye Country, on vinyl — the cumbersome, scratch-prone medium that simply will not die. The Boys will be peddling their hunk of critically acclaimed hot wax, which melds Sahm-ic Tex-Mex with free-jazz flip-outs and asthmatic carnival accordions, at a free performance in SA this weekend. The LP release party is part of Sid St.Onge’s ongoing Sunday Sounds concert series, and St. Onge’s own band of local phonograph heroes, Fear Snakeface, will also perform. Check your iPhones at the door. Free. 3pm Sun, Feb 8, behind Sala Diaz Art Studio, 517 Stieren St.
