Two of S.A.’s best-loved turntablists, DJ Jester the Filipino Fist and Ernest “Theory of Everything” Gonzales celebrate the one-year anniversary of “Get Busy,” their First Friday DJ night at Limelight, with a blowout at the club (2718 N. St. Mary’s) on Friday, August 1.
Billed as Jester vs. Gonzales, “Get Busy” surely has to be the friendliest competition seen in this country since Bobby Bowden last coached against one of his sons. Jester’s humorous, pop-culture sound collages (which are liable to pit Fraggle Rock or Willie Nelson against old-school hip-hop beats) and Gonzales’s cerebral grooves and ambient textures always make a good match, and over the last year they’ve also welcomed Texas-based guests such as DJ Manila Ice and Lady Pterodactyl, as well as Eliot Lipp and Daedelus. For the anniversary show, they’ll bring in their Austin comrade Ian Orth.
The “Get Busy” anniversary celebration is a 21-and-up show. The music starts at 10 p.m. and the cover is $3 if you arrive before 11 p.m.
