THE SOUND & THE FURY

Joe Reyes likes to say that teaching guitar at Spacetone Music is beneficial because it gives him a daily schedule and keeps him from getting lazy. It must be working, because Reyes is remarkably productive — from his work with the Swindles and Buttercup to his production efforts and one-man-band solo projects.

Reyes is forever facing a backlog of solo material, and he’s so busy that he’s just now getting set to play a local CD-release show for his new album, Colours and Sound, after celebrating its release in Austin three months ago. (He’s also got a finished EP nipping at the album’s heels).

Reyes’ melodicism and meticulous musicianship consistently shine through on C&S, with “The Unsaid” (a great tongue-tied-lovers anthem) and “Menagerie” (a tour-de-force of lush harmonies) the biggest standouts. He says he worked on the tracks from late 2006 through early 2007, then felt the need to do some sonic tweaking after being blown away by Spoon’s 2007 album, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.

Reyes will perform an in-store at Music Town on Saturday, November 29, and a CD-release doubleheader on Friday, December 12, at Twin Sisters (North New Braunfels location) and the Warhol.
