We may be living in a world of fools, breaking us down, when they all should let us be, but Hyperbubble has a solution to the problem: SA’s favorite husband-and-wife electro-pop duo plan to show us how deep is their love for the Brothers Gibb, with a newly recorded seasonal single called “Christmas With the Bee Gees.”
A mechanized, Giorgio Moroder-like dance-floor manifesto, this track answers any lingering questions about how a robot with gold chains and a thicket of chest hair might have fared at Studio 54. With a propulsive groove reminiscent of “You Should Be Dancing” and falsetto hiccups in the helium-sucking spirit of Barry Gibb (who likes to call the technique “screaming in tune”), this is the Bee Gees, Saturday-morning-cartoon style.
Hyperbubble’s Jess and Jeff DeCuir will release three separate mixes of the song, one for each Bee Gee. You can decide whether you prefer the “Barry Gentlemen,” “Robin Reindeer,” or “Maurice Mistletoe” mix, available at fellowshipwreck.com on Christmas Day, which Hyperbubble promises will be a day of worldwide synth-pop celebration.
