THE SOUND & THE FURY

With Girl in a Coma busy promoting their new album, Trio B.C. (which dropped last Tuesday), one of the local beneficiaries of the band’s success has been Ledaswan. The alternative/dream-pop quintet, which includes former Current staffer Jaime Monzon, picked up a couple of July shows with GIAC and decided to use the gigs as a springboard for their first-ever West Coast tour.

Ledaswan has settled on a classic method for financing the tour, one that’s worked like a charm over the years for Pony League baseball teams and high-school marching bands alike: the barbecue-plate sale.

The band’s fundraiser is set for Sunday, June 14, at 668 E. Woodlawn, #1, from noon-4 p.m. Plates are $5, and the gathering will also feature music by local acoustic troubadour Omar Nambo.

Ledaswan’s tour is scheduled to begin on July 15 in El Paso, and will be followed by a string of dates in California — including a July 19 gig at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood — and Nevada. On their way back to Texas, they’ll join Girl in a Coma for shows in El Paso and Mesa, Arizona.

Ledaswan can also be seen this week at G.I.G. on the Strip (2803 N. St. Mary’s) on Saturday, June 13.
