Gilbert Garcia’s gone, but don’t cry. He bit the mailman again, so we’ve taken him out to a farm where he can run, frolic, and review albums all day long in a big sunny field. We’ve got you a new writer to play with, though — none other than the Kamikaze himself, Enrique Lopetegui, who’ll be taking over this space next week. Send all your music happenings, tips, and gossip his way at While you’re at it, be sure and CC me at and calendar editor Bryan Rindfuss at

In the meantime, how would you like to have your band play for a bunch of people who are sweaty for reasons other than alcohol poisoning? The San Antonio Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon is looking for “upbeat, talented bands” to play for the 30,000-plus contestants and spectators along the race route on Sunday, November 15. The marathon is open to several genres, including salsa, reggae, R&B, rock, and country, but this may not be the best time to debut your down-tempo goth masterpiece, “Long Distance Running Is Fucking Stupid and Pointless, Bro.” Send photos, bios, and demo tracks to Monica Robles at
