The Sound & The Fury

It seems the Free Show Friday series finally found a permanent home. The gratis performance-arts festival, which takes place every first and third Friday of the month, starts its new chapter this week at the Pedicab, 415 E. Cevallos (right next to La Tuna).

The action begins at 9:30 p.m. with spoken word by artist Lawrence Trujillo, followed a poetry recital by musician Mike Evans (of metal band Karma) at 9:50. Host band Sons of Sancho will present some new tunes with guest vocalist Herbert Crenshaw at 10:45, and San Marcos actor Joseph Cheatham (who had a role in Mike Judge’s Idiocracy) will perform a monologue from his new film project at midnight. From 12:20 till who knows when, Budian will hopefully give us a sample of the imminent Budian The Beast CD.

For those wanting to warm-up for the Gilberto Santa Rosa show on Sunday (see Kamikaze to the left), there’s free salsa at Main Plaza from Austin’s Salero from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday. I like them because they don’t wear silly uniforms and they’re versatile: They play the usual crap people want, but also good stuff. Plus: They have a killer piano and a dynamite horn section. Worth paying them a visit.
