The Squeezebox Lines Up Cilantro, Mariachi and Cumbia-filled Anniversary Celebrations

It's hard to believe it's been a full year since The Squeezebox opened its doors along the St. Mary's Strip. The bar quickly filled a Salute-sized hole in the heart of many San Antonians, and co-owners Ryan Dietrich, Osvaldo Ordonez, Julio Lopez and Aaron Peña along with Danny Delgado (Hi-Tones, Faust, Lowcountry) gave Strip-goers another place to let the necio/necia inside of us loose.

A year ago, accordion Queen Eva Ybarra and National Medals of Arts recipient Santiago Jimenez Jr. helped open the bar with a fiesta that set the pace for what was to come, and now on the eve of its anniversary, Squeezebox is readying for festivities just as grand.

Friday night will feature Austin's Cilantro Boombox playing on stage and DJ Steven Lee Moya spinning all night on the patio. The following night, resident DJ will spin Tejano tunes to warm up the crowd, followed by a serenade from female-fronted Mariachi Raices Mexicanas de Tanya Medellin from 11:30 to midnight. A necio cumbia set will close out the night.

A limited number of anniversary shirts and koozies will be available for purchase on Saturday night.
