In the process of bringing it to the mainstream via cable TV, RuPaul’s Drag Race has significantly changed (some say killed) drag, especially for performers who don’t make it onto the show. Few contestants have summed up the current drag landscape or the ins and outs of said reality competition series better than season eight fan favorite Thorgy Thor — a classically trained violinist, fun-loving “fashion clown,” Brooklyn nightlife fixture, performance artist and co-creator of the live vintage clothing auction Alotta Stuff. “Now that you can watch everything on TV, it’s kind of killed the going out of it all … People will pay a $25 ticket and flock to go see one of the Drag Race girls, but they’ll never come out to see all the local girls,” Thor told Queerty last month. Fittingly, Thor (born Shane Galligan) comes to San Antonio courtesy of Rey Lopez Entertainment, an outfit that banks on the selling power of Drag Race stars but thoughtfully rounds evenings out with performances by emerging and established local drag queens. Hosted by repeat Best of San Antonio winner Tencha la Jefa, Thor’s San Antonio premiere unites the talents of RLE Showgirls Felisha Andrews, Amerie Parker, Nilaya Milan Raven, Aaron Andrews, Chyna Cravens and Alayna Marquez.
