Tokyo Police Club, Ra Ra Riot, & Ruby Coast

Release Date: 2009-03-11

San Antonio indie-rock fans, rejoice! Critical darlings Tokyo Police Club and Ra Ra Riot hit the White Rabbit on March 13. Both bands released much-buzzed-about records in 2008 and are on a quick ascent to the top of the indie pile. Toronto’s Tokyo Police Club got an early start when Rolling Stone declared 2006’s A Lesson In Crime EP a four-star knockout. Full-length Elephant Shell and a steady tour schedule soon followed. Ra Ra Riot offered the inspired The Rhumb Line, recorded after the tragic death of drummer John Pike, recalling Arcade Fire’s Funeral without biting the Boss.

Both bands absolutely kill live, and this might be the best of several concerts tying into South By Southwest, an annual occurrence some SA music critics call the “SXSW trickle-down.” Enjoy it while you can, folks. $13-$15, 7pm Friday, March 13, White Rabbit, 2410 N. St. Mary’s, (210) 737-2221,
