Tone Deaf Teddy

by

The Texas primary campaign is over but the melody lingers on, and we're not talking about the endless caucus counting.
One of the most amazing features of the campaign was that it spurred Ted Kennedy, hitting the stump for Barack Obama, to prove his South Texas bona fides by breaking, with little warning, into a-cappella renditions of the Mexican standard "Jalisco" (clips of his "performances" in Laredo and at San Antonio's Trinity University can be found on You Tube; look for "Ted Kennedy Sings Again!").
Teddy Senate's booming Irish baritone meets no accepted definition of the word "pleasant," but earns compensatory points for pure volume and an utter lack of embarrassment. No truth to the rumor he'll soon be collaborating with Vicente Fernandez on an album of corridos.
