Top 10 Bonehead Quotes of 2013

Still in its infancy, we started our Bonehead Quote of the Week blog earlier this year to expose some of the hypocritical, nonsensical and just plain nutty remarks from our local, state and national elected officials and public personalities. From calling for the impeachment of President Obama to non-apologetic LGBT intolerance, it’s safe to say we were never in short supply. You can expect a double-dose of crazy, weird and embarrassing gaffes from our esteemed state and local candidates during next year’s midterm elections—so, brace yourselves.

To tide you over as 2014 approaches, we revisited the verbal WTFs and scoured the press for other rhetorical gems to give you the crème de la crème of the Boneheads:

9. State Sen. Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels) on Creationism: “I’m drinking from the fire hydrant here. Do we – are we saying, with this conversation here that there is opposition because we do not have the scientific facts to teach creation? That God did create world and man? Are we trying to eliminate that, or are we just trying to say we want to include evolution? Where are we there?” (Sen. Campbell Pushes Creationism During SBOE Confirmation Hearing, SA Current, Feb. 13, 2013)

8. Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Obamacare: “If this health care law is forced upon this country, the young men and women in this audience are the ones who are really going to pay the price. And that, I will suggest to you, reaches to the point of being a felony toward them and their future. That is a criminal act, from my perspective, to put that type of burden on them [ ] America cannot accept that.” (Bonehead Quote of the Week, Oct. 4, 2013)

7. Rev. Will Combs, Pastor of San Antonio’s St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, On Texas Abortion Laws: "Abortion is against women's rights and what women are called to be, which are wives and mothers. I mean really, they cross their legs very tightly and sit on a tall stool, that’s part of the presentation. And very conservative opinion makers and good guests, you know? That’s it– 1, 2, 3. And that’s how Roger Ailes [president of Fox News Channel] built his empire.” (Bonehead Quote of the Week, Oct. 11, 2013)
