Trader Joe's making its way to Texas; no word on San Antonio yet

Those rumors about Trader Joe’s coming to the Lone Star State? True. All true. Only the California-based health foods chain hasn’t figured out that San Antonio is the real Texas yet. Company officials announced plans last week to open a store in Dallas this year, while also scouting possible locations in Houston, Austin, and other areas; not sure where those “other areas” are, but I’m betting Austin gets one before San Antonio does. So if you were counting on more grocery store diversity any time soon, it looks like you’ll still be waiting. (Though may we direct your attention to Green Fields and Sun Harvest?)

Not content to sit and wait for good things to come to him, chef Johnny Hernandez from La Gloria has hit the road with the spice company McCormick. He’s riding a food truck through various cities in the Southwest, but the adventure sparks more questions than it answers. Is this a play on Hernandez’s part to get his own line of spices, our own Emeril? Is he helping McCormick take a crack at overthrowing local spice company Bolner’s Fiesta? Will he help McCormick create a Latin spice pack? Only time will tell.
