Transcendental Train Yard

When: Sat., Jan. 16, 2-4 p.m. 2016

Drop by the Ruiz-Healy Art gallery for a special one-day exhibit of the artwork from the new Wings Press book, Transcendental Train Yard . On hand to sign the book will be the poet, Dr. Norma E. Cantu, the artist Marta Sanchez, and the author of the preface, Dr. Tomas Ybarra-Frausto. Marta's serigraph prints incorporate Norma's poetry, creating a mutually ekphrastic collaborative work. The book is visually stunning, and explores a too-often aspect of Chicano history and culture. As Dr. Ybarra-Frausto writes, "The visual and literary texts collectively produced by Marta Sánchez and Norma E. Cantú in their Transcendental Train Yard suite affirm the centrality of the railroad in Mexican and Mexican-American history and culture. Their expressionistic, dreamlike representations bring to consciousness reservoirs of feelings and primordial images from the Mexican collective unconscious."
