In the 1969 Western based on Charles Portis’ novel True Grit, John Wayne delivers an Oscar-winning performance as Rooster Cogburn, an aging U.S. Marshal hired by a tenacious teenage girl to help track down her father’s murderer. The movie, which is part of the Briscoe’s Award-Winning West film series, also stars Robert Duvall as outlaw “Lucky” Ned Pepper and Dennis Hopper as a horse thief named Moon. After the screening, search out the Coen brothers’ 2010 remake starring Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld, which gives the original a run for its money.
