True Stories: Inherited, Salvaged, Embroidered

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2008-11-19

Marilyn Lanfear uses sculpture based on family artifacts, recreations of old images, and oral histories to reconstitute her family’s legends for the next generation. Often ghostly and animated by the handiwork of a bygone era, her installations remind us that in their earliest incarnation, record-keepers were considered artists of the highest order. Her one-woman Bihl Haus show includes a free gallery talk, 2 p.m. Saturday, December 6. Opening reception: 5:30-8:30pm, Friday, November 21. Bihl Haus Arts, 2803 Fredericksburg, (210) 383-9723.
