A pair of local breweries banked on San Antonio's knowledge of chilies and all things spice-filled, and they're bringing home hardware to prove it.

Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling earned a bronze for chili beer in this year's Great American Beer Festival for its San Antonio Hatch Lager, and Künstler Brewing's spiced porter Chamuco earned a silver in the same category.

The rest of Texas fared well; Austin claimed several winners as well as Large Brewpub and Large Brewpub Brewer of the Year; Saint Arnold showed up for Houston with a bronze and silver win; and Blanco's Real Ale earned gold for a third year straight for its Real Heavy Scotch Ale.
