Bexar County Court records show that between Sunday and Monday evenings 76 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. To help the situation, VIA and Uber are encouraging people to go car-free this Fiesta season, and incentivizing the use of their services with special deals.
VIA President and CEO Jeffrey Arndt explains, "If you are a first time Uber user, you can get that first ride up to $15 for free by signing up with a code, VIA2017, pretty easy one to remember."
In addition, VIA is offering special event park-and-ride services to and from many Fiesta events. For a full listing of these locations, visit their website here.
Jason Derscheid, the executive director of the San Antonio chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, was alarmed by the DWI arrests from this weekend.
“Approximately 40 percent of those were for felonies, so either priors, multiple DWIs, driving with a child under 15,” Derscheid said in an interview with News 4 San Antonio.
