“Void 2 Fill” — OBX

comment

The genre doesn’t seem in any danger of going away, but every MC, sucker or otherwise, claims to be hip-hop’s next savior. OBX’s claims are slightly more modest than, say, Lil Wayne. Rather than claiming to resurrect hip-hop from its death bed, OBX simply suggests he’s the missing ingredient. And “Void 2 Fill” — matching OX’s motor-mouth trash talk with heavy keyboard loops that recall 36 Chambers while nibbling a few notes from Beethoven’s fifth — makes a powerful argument that there’s nothing quite like his raw menace on the airwaves today.
