While some have lambasted the film’s issues with cultural tone deafness (at best) or cultural appropriation (at worst), critics have fairly roundly lauded the movie, and there’s even been some buzz suggesting it could land Anderson his first Oscar for Best Picture.
Isle of Dogs, the auteur’s second foray into stop-motion animation, follows the story of a 12-year-old’s zany quest to rescue his canine bodyguard from the titular island, to which all dogs have been banished, and features voice work from an impressive cast of actors, including Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston and Bill Murray, just to name a few.
