Women in STEAM: Honoring Astronomer Maria Mitchell

Maria Mitchell was the first female professional astronomer in the United States. She became instantly famous in October, 1847 when she discovered and charted the orbit of a new comet, which became known as “Miss Mitchell’s Comet.” Poet Cynthia Kirby Reilley will recite a narrative about Mitchell, followed by an astronomically inspired art activity. The event will take place in the Pedernales Building, Room 104.
