The last time Rocky Votolato came through San Antonio, he sang and played guitar in an intimate, stripped-down performance for 20 people in a free, BYOB house show just off North Main. That was in March of this year, when Votolato was on some self-described “rough-assed” national tours in support of his acclaimed breakout Makers, a simple, back-to-basics affair that speaks volumes despite simple arrangements and backing. A Texas native who moved to Seattle as a teen, Votolato returns to the Alamo City after releasing The Brag & Cuss, a band record that departs from the acoustic guitar and occasional-harmonica norm and marks a major turning point in his career. $10, 8pm, Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar, 1033 Ave. B., rockyvotolato.com.
